Board Game Design

I designed and prototyped a fully playable board game.

Play from 5 to 8. Explore Antarctica and try to survive Cthulhu's influence.

Be careful, someone in your group is already corrupted and will block you trying to bury you under the ice.

The game is playtested at different IDEAGs with the support of other game designers.

It's still in development with refinement and is close to being pitched to publishers.

Pre-production

I started analyzing 250 board games released on Kickstarter from light to medium complexity (doc). I excluded heavy-weight games because they tend to target a different audience.

I noted an interest in the Lovecraft theme and a blue ocean of social deduction games in this narrative.

Production

I prototyped the game on paper, then moved to Tabletopia for easing the playtest process, finally I printed with good quality cards to better understand the feeling around the table. The game is a social deduction with bluffing mechanics, so it was crucial to bring it to a physical state to try it face to face with other players.

Playtesting

I tested it with friends and then quickly moved to search for feedback from other experienced designers. I participated in two IDEAG events, booking a table and testing it many times during the weekends. I also had the opportunity to take the game to an organized playtest session during Lucca Comics and Games in 2023.
